The history of the Casa Gava began 500 years ago. It was built on this particular energy-rich site by the family of Doctor Medico “Domenico Mina”. According to documents in the archives of Mondovì, the doctor Domenico Mina was the personal doctor of the prince of Turin. He therefore would have frequented high society. Only the best possible options would have been taken into consideration for siting his residence, from the point of view of accessibility, water supply and climate.

After his death, the domicile was used for centuries as a Benedictine convent.

According to the archives, it was later “down-graded” to being the largest farm in the Gava area.

The three sundials, now restored, and the tunnel for escaping towards the castle of Cigliè, still bear witness to this illustrious past.

Thanks to the high-quality materials used in the structure and, at a later date, the skilful refurbishment by specialist craftsmen, there are no signs of cracks or damp in the walls.

The restoration was carried out largely by Austrian craftsmen with very high technical skills (heating, plumbing, electrical systems).

Thanks to the excellent insulation and high-quality underfloor heating, the building comfort can be managed throughout the year with low heating costs.

Using its own transformer unit, the peak hours of electricity consumption can be covered without limits.

With an EU-standards lift installed, all the apartments can be reached from the garage below ground without architectural barriers.

Description of the site

casa-gava-header-4

In the heart of a unique natural environment and habitat, this region on the edge of a world heritage area offers innumerable amenities for tourism.

Casa Gava is located in the centre of a unique climatic zone (430 m a.s.l.). All four seasons are distinct, offering pleasant days in summer and sunny days in winter. Not far away are the towns of Mondovì, Barolo and Alba.

The Mediterranean on the Ligurian coast, as well as the cities of Turin and Genova with their international airports, can be reached comfortably in an hour’s drive.

The site’s strongpoints are its sunny summer months and uncontaminated natural setting with unique panoramic views over the hills of the Langhe.

In winter, nearby skiing resorts offer every kind of winter sport.

This zone of Piedmont enjoys international fame for its noble wines and famous cuisine.

The land appertaining to the estate (circa 130,000 m2) and the abundant water supply facilitate animal raising of many kinds.

The park, with paths and outdoor lighting, was designed and built by an Austrian landscape architect. The lighting installation allows long walks to be taken even in the evening hours. You can swim, both in the large natural lake (over 1000 m2), which has been completely renewed, is populated with fish and has a mooring for small boats, and in the prized natural biological swimming pool, with its very up-to-date filter system.

Alternatively, guests can enjoy a heated 10 x 4 meter pool on east side of the complex, and a remarkable hydro-massage pool.

In an absolutely new extension there is a Finnish sauna and a steam sauna.

The access road and parking are paved with granite and porphyry slabs. Thanks to high investment in the sub-structure, these can be accessed by heavy vehicles.

The surrounding land, also part of the property, extends for about 130,000 m2, and can be used for animal raising, hazelnut cultivation and grape growing.

These estates have for years been let out to farmers who have used them as grazing, guaranteeing excellent care without the use of pesticides.
